Hello hominids!
It’s almost that magical time of year again! That’s right, Gallifrey One’s Doctor Who convention is right around the corner.
Rarely have so many Doctors & Daleks, Companions & Cybermen, Time Lords & TARDI (plural for TARDIS’s?) gathered together to share in such a similar (but wildly, imaginatively different) affinity of the Doctor Who series. *Keep an eye out for a domesticated Cybershade on Saturday and Sunday*
This year’s celebrity/production-people lineup looks to be absolutely fascinating. For a decent sized chuck of guests, see the list at the bottom. The Discussion Panels range from in depth talks about Doctor Who storylines/backstory, creating and crafting aspects of the Doctor Who genre, to even branching out into various other forms of media and television. Of course, there is the COS Play and costuming workshops to check out.
What happens once the sun goes down? More panels! This is one convention that offers late-night panels, along with live stage and comedy shows, gala events, late evening dances, karaoke, and the much loved Masquerade with the costume showcase.
The Gallifrey One team have such huge hearts, and they are continuing with the Bob May Memorial Charity Auction. This year, the proceeds will go to Students Run LA, a school-based mentoring and physical fitness program for at-risk middle and high school students in the Los Angeles area. On the agenda for Saturday is the Blood Drive for the American Red Cross.
Newly updated from Gallifrey One: “The original TARDIS console created for the 1996 TV movie will be on display at Gallifrey 2012 for its first-ever public appearance. Attendees can see this restored, one-of-a-kind iconic prop in person during all three days of the convention; stop by the COSplay Hall anytime during open hours to check it out up close. Everyone will experience the same lights, motion and newly added sound effects as seen in the TV Movie. A virtual photo tour will also be on display to walk folks through the step-by-step painstaking restoration process.”
